What Are Beer Fermenters?

Beer fermenters, also known as conical fermenters or stainless steel fermentation tanks, are specialized vessels used for beer fermentation, maturation, yeast settling, and conditioning. Their design ensures precise temperature control, sanitary processing, and stable product quality across every batch. A professional fermenter typically features a 60° conical bottom for efficient yeast collection, multi-zone glycol cooling jackets for accurate temperature management, and CIP-ready sanitary piping for easy cleaning.

Our fermenters are widely used in microbreweries, brewpubs, and commercial breweries, supporting production from small-batch craft recipes to large-scale industrial brewing. Whether you are building a new brewhouse or expanding capacity, a high-quality stainless steel fermenter is essential for consistent fermentation performance and long-term brewery reliability.

Standard Features Built for Professional Brewing Performance

Our fermenters come equipped with all essential features required for reliable, sanitary, and consistent beer production. Each tank is engineered with professional-grade materials, precise temperature control, and industry-standard safety components to ensure long-term performance in commercial brewing environments.

Frequently Asked Questions from Brewery Buyers

Our FAQ section answers the key questions most brewery owners, engineers, and purchasing managers ask before placing an order. It helps you quickly understand our customization capability, certifications, lead times, installation support, and what information we need to prepare an accurate quotation.

A beer fermenter is a sealed stainless steel vessel where wort becomes beer under controlled temperature. A conical fermenter has a cone bottom so yeast and trub can be dumped and yeast harvested. Most craft breweries use pressure-rated conical tanks (unitanks) that ferment, cold-crash and carbonate in one vessel, saving space and transfers. Tell us your beer styles and workflow and we will advise.

Multiply the number of brews you plan per week by the days each beer occupies a tank (fermentation plus conditioning), then add a spare tank for flexibility. Our models run from 50L to 1500L and beyond; note the total volume is larger than the nominal volume to leave headspace (for example a 1000L model has 1350L total volume). Send your brew plan and we will calculate the tank count.

Fermenters use dimple or cooling jackets fed with chilled glycol, controlled by a temperature probe and valve. Chiller capacity depends on the largest cooling load: tank volume, temperature drop required, how many tanks crash at once, fermentation heat and room losses, plus a safety margin. Give us the tank list and brew schedule and we will size the glycol system with you.

Ales and lagers fermented at low pressure need only modest ratings, but if you want to spund or carbonate in the tank you need a pressure-rated vessel with a safety valve. Our tanks are built and tested to the design pressure agreed in your order, and include a pressure relief valve. State your intended pressure when you inquire so we can specify the shell, jacket and fittings correctly.

Tanks are made of food-grade stainless steel (SS304, with 316L available on request for special applications). Interior surfaces are polished for easy cleaning, and welds are made by sanitary TIG welding followed by pickling and passivation. Our factory holds a D1/D2 pressure vessel manufacturing license, ISO 9001 and ISO 18001, and can supply material and test documentation with the order.

Lead time depends on size, quantity and customization, and is given in your quotation with the technical parameters. Tanks are tested before shipment, protected and fixed for sea transport, and loaded into containers; large tanks can be shipped in sections or on flat racks. We can arrange the shipping term you prefer, including DDP to many countries.

Yes. Manway position and shape, dry-hop port, racking arm, sampling valve, thermowell, CIP spray ball, jacket zones, legs and diameter-to-height ratio can all be adjusted, and OEM/ODM designs are supported. Limits come mainly from pressure design and your room height. Send a sketch or your requirements and our engineers will return a drawing for confirmation before fabrication.
